Pune: Havildar Aneesh Kumar S has won a bronze medal with a personal best throw of 45.41m at the Asian Para Games 2018 held recently. During his posting in Jammu and Kashmir, he had got stuck in the snow while carrying out a long-range patrol mission and one of his foot had to be amputated due to frostbite.
While undergoing treatment at Artificial Limb Centre, Pune, he decided to enable himself in spite of the injury and took to Para Athletics as a sport. His hard work and dedication during training at Paralympic Node, Kirkee paid off and he won a silver medal in Men’s Discus Throw at 17th National Para Athletics Championship 2017 held at Jaipur last year.
“Looking at his track record, zeal and enthusiasm, he was immediately attached with Paralympic Node, Khadki to enable him to realise his dreams. Soon, he won gold medals in discus throw and shot put in 18th National Para Athletics Championship 2018 held at Panchkula, Haryana in March this year. He followed his success by winning a silver medal in discus throw in Indian Open Para Athletics Championship held at Bengaluru from July 11 to 12, 2018. Accordingly, he was selected to represent India at Asian Para Games 2018 to be held in Indonesia from October 6 to 13. On October 9, Havildar Aneesh Kumar S participated in men’s discus throw category in Asian Para Games 2018 and won a bronze medal with a personal best throw of 45.41m. The achievement is a matter of great pride for Havildar Aneesh as well as the ‘Corps of Signals’ and the Indian Army,” a press release from Southern Command stated.
