Handloom expo back after 5 yrs

PUNE: The National Handloom Expo, organised by Ministry of Textiles, was inaugurated in Pune on Saturday. The ministry has restarted the expo after a gap of five years, said Sanjay Meena, Director, Textiles, Government of Maharashtra, and Managing Director, Maharashtra State Handlooms Corporation Ltd, Nagpur.

Meena was speaking after inauguration of the expo. RM Parmar, Deputy Director of Central Handloom Ministry, Vijay Nimaje, Joint Director of Central Handloom Ministry, Shilpa Agarwal, Mrs Universe Lovely 2017 and Brand Ambassador of Indrayani Handlooms were also present.

Meena said, “This is one of the largest handloom expos. Over 73 participants from 13 states are participating in this expo. Mailnly Jammu & Kashmir, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Rajasthan, Bihar, Gujrat, Telangana and Delhi are represented. This expo means a 23-day meet of buyers and sellers. It is a marketing opportunity for all entrepreneurs.”

“Maharashtrian Paithani saree is very famous and traditional, but we are coming up with a modern outfit with modern thoughts, specially for the young generation. In this expo, people will see different variety from every state,” said Shilpa Agarwal. People will also get a chance to see live textile printing.
