Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) finally heaved a sigh of relief on Tuesday as a team from Guinness World Records confirmed its presence at the dhol-tasha event to mark the 125 years of public celebration of Ganesh festival in Pune.

Earlier, the event was planned to be held last Sunday, but due to non-confirmation of date by the Guinness World Records team, the PMC had to postpone the event.

According to senior civic officers who have been entrusted to execute 125 years of Ganesh festival celebration plan, the team of Guinness World Records has agreed to be present at the event. However, it has put a condition before the PMC that the participants in the dhol-tasha event should not be below 15 years of age.

The civic officials and the ruling BJP office-bearers in the PMC, who are involved in the planning and execution of the 125th year celebrations of Ganesh festival, are cautious as the event had to be postponed twice. They had to face embarrassment.

The officers claimed that since the date is yet to be finalised for holding the event, only 1,600 participants have so far confirmed their presence. Around 3,200 had agreed to participate in the event last Sunday. The PMC wants to break the already established record for the dhol-tasha event, which is 1,300 participants and is held by a Kolhapur-based organisation.
