Groom arranges blood donation camp

Speaking to Sakal Times, Ram Bangad, founder and president 'Raktache Naate' said that the number of blood camps in the city reduce around Diwali. "This has a direct adverse effect on patients who need blood as many banks do not have blood during this time."

PUNE: Anuraj Sonawane, a groom who arranged a blood donation camp on his wedding day with members of NGO 'Raktache Naate', donated single platelets to address the shortage of blood in blood banks. Single Donor Platelets (SDP) are used by patients suffering from dengue.

Speaking to Sakal Times, Ram Bangad, founder and president 'Raktache Naate' said that the number of blood camps in the city reduce around Diwali. "This has a direct adverse effect on patients who need blood as many banks do not have blood during this time. In such a scenario, it is important to get more and more donors to save lives. Pune is witnessing a lot of dengue patients these days. And hence there is more need to donate platelets," said Bangad.

Sonawane said that platelets donation needs one-and-a-half hour. "It was the death anniversary of my father and I decided to donate platelets in his honour," said Sonawane.

So far, in October, 1,614 patients are suspected to be suffering from dengue. Since January 2017, 1,032 patients have been confirmed with dengue. Out of the confirmed cases, 461 were in October.
