Pimpri: After resolving the standoff between right wing organisations and green activists over the collection of donated Ganesh idols, in a single day over 3,650 idols were collected by green activists as people approached immersion ghats for immersion of Ganesh idols on the 7th day of the festival on Thursday.

The activists from Sanskar Pratishthan, Tata Volunteering are jointly collecting idols to avoid pollution of the river due to immersion of Ganesh idols. This idol collection drive was implemented at Walhekarwadi, Thergaon, Moraya Gosavi Temple, Keshavnagar and Kalewadi Ghat. Besides this, 900 idols were collected from the tanks which were specially built for immersion of Ganesh idols.

As a result of standoff that was observed in the first few days of ongoing Ganesh festival, a large number of idols were directly immersed in the river. The devotees said they had no option but to immerse idols in the river due to the absence of volunteers at immersion ghats.

Most of the household Ganpati are immersed on the fifth and seventh day of the festival. Last year, green activists had collected over 20,000 idols. This year, the collected idols will be immersed in the stone quarry near Vinode Vasti near Wakad after following all the necessary rituals.

During the first few days, due to aggressive stand taken by right wing organisations, the collection of idols on immersion ghats was stopped completely. After a meeting was held in presence of PCMC Commissioner Shravan Hardikar, right wing activists softened their stand over the issue on Thursday.
