Pune: Known for providing vocational and skill-based education, the Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) will now compete with each other on various parameters as the State government has decided to give away awards to the top three ITIs from the State. The awards will be instituted from next year.

“The awards will be given to felicitate the ITIs that are implementing all government programmes for skill development efficiently,” said a government resolution (GR) issued recently.
The GR stated, “By giving the youths of the country skill-based education, these institutes are improving the quality, standard and outcome of the industrial sector of India. The government is striving to improve the standard of ITIs through a public-private partnership under Centre for Excellence
programme by the World Bank. Lokseva Centre and training programmes for tribal students are some of the programmes being run successfully in the ITIs. Hence, the State decided to give awards to encourage them to carry out good work.”

The awards will be given away on May 1 every year starting from the year 2019. The top three institutes in the State will be awarded Rs 5 lakh, Rs 3 lakh and Rs 2 lakh respectively.

The government expects that the award money will be utilised for development of the institutes and their facilities such as spoken English classes, guidance for working abroad, medical camps, guidance for employment and self-employment, sports facilities, library and Yoga training.
