Pune: To promote the use of and expand the amount of information available on Marathi Wikipedia, the State government will be organising a workshop to train people to write for Marathi Wikipedia.

The workshop is expected to be held on January 12, 2018, where participants would be trained on how to write about different topics that are of interest to Marathi Internet users and how to upload the same on Marathi Wikipedia.

In a recent GR, the government stated that while Wikipedia is a widely used source of information, the website is presently being developed in 288 languages by people across the world. However, the information available on Marathi Wikipedia is limited.

The government intends to train and encourage more people to open accounts on Wikipedia and update information in Marathi. The information could include anything of interest to any Marathi person around the globe. It will also help students and citizens in rural areas to access information on Internet in their own language. The GR hopes that apart from promoting the use of Marathi Wikipedia, this initiative would help in propagating Marathi.

The government officials interested in attending the workshop can send their name, designation, name of department and mobile number to the email id, rajashri.bapat@nic.in by December 30, 2017.

The workshop will be held as part of the Marathi Language Conservation Fortnight, which is going to be celebrated from January 1 to 15.
