Pune: The Yerwada police have found an easy solution to solve the age old recurring problem of locating history sheeters - Google Maps!

The Yerwada police have used Google Maps to locate homes of more than 400 repeat offenders, which can now be searched by just a click on a link.

Speaking about the new initiative, Police Inspector Ashok Kadam said, “Once, a senior police official asked for some details about history sheeters in our area. It was then that the idea clicked to us and we started tabulating this data and connecting it with Google Maps.”

Extensive data
As the first step, Yerwada police collated data of repeat offenders under their jurisdiction. “It made our life simple and so we thought of expanding it to all police stations. Now, we have information of about 400 history sheeters across the north region and we are working on this initiative,” added Kadam.

Police officials can now find the name, age, address, recent personal picture, photos of the home of the criminal, photos of personal identification of the history sheeter, by clicking on one link.

“Locating the house of a history sheeter was a tiresome task, mainly at night, when people are asleep. So, we were in need of accurate information, so that we do not make any mistake and trouble others while checking for a history sheeter at his home,” added Kadam.

The police inspector highlighted that restricted access has been granted to senior police officials and at the police station level so that the information is not misused.

Kadam said it took a span of three months to gather all information of 19 police stations.
