Goa Carnival this year becomes more inclusive

The float will be jointly organised by Disability Rights Association of Goa, Enable Travel and Ezy Mov to improve the level of accessibility

PUNE: Goa Carnival 2019 is conveying the message of inclusivity as an accessible float will be organised for disabled and their family members to make this festival accessible for all. 

This float will be equipped with ramps to facilitate wheelchair users and people with crunches. 

This accessible float will be jointly organised by DRAG (Disability Rights Association of Goa), Enable Travel and Ezy Mov to improve the level of accessibility.

Goa Carnival is a festival which is an epitome of local culture with Portuguese flavour. It will be held in Panaji in March.

DRAG President Avelino D’sa said, “Carnivals are generally for entertainment but this year, we want to give a message of inclusivity to everyone. It is one of the most popular festivals and we want to make it accessible for all and thus, we are happy that for the first time, disabled people will be part of this festival.” 

Goa Tourism Developmental Corporation MD Nikhil Desai said, “Goa tourism always supports inclusivity and we welcome this move and it is an excellent initiative. The carnival is all about bringing joy and happiness and we have seen in the past that specially abled people have achieved the extraordinary milestone and this is our moral responsibility to encourage them and bring happiness to their lives.’’
