Girish Bapat likely to visit PCB office next week

Pune: Pune District Guardian Minister Girish Bapat is likely to visit the Pune Cantonment Board office next week to discuss the prolonged issue of changing of old water pipelines.

The residents of the Cantonment have alleged that the old water pipelines cause water contamination which poses a threat to their lives.

“The water pipelines which have not been changed after Independence are broken and rusted at many places, but neither the Cantonment nor the ward members pay any heed to it,” alleged the residents. Thus, Bapat’s visit is important since it might help resolve the issue. The elected ward members had a brief meeting with the Guardian Minister on Wednesday and submitted a letter regarding the same.

Priyanka Shrigiri, Vice President of the Cantonment Board told Sakal Times that Bapat had very less time, but he read the letter and assured that he will be visiting Pune Cantonment in the next week and meet ward members and higher authorities.

Shrigiri said, “Though Bapat has not given any fixed date for the meeting, he has assured that he will be visiting the Cantonment next week.” Atul Gaikwad, elected ward member who had raised the issue in the General Body Meeting held recently, said, “The water shortage and contamination is haunting the residents living under the jurisdiction of Pune Cantonment from last several years and we are helpless. So the issue will be discussed with Bapat during his visit. “

Gaikwad added, “The Goods and Service Tax issue will also be discussed during the meeting. We hope Bapat might take it up with the Finance Ministry and discuss with the higher authorities.”
