Girish Bapat allocates Rs. 100 cr fund to PMC
The Bhide Wada Smarak Samiti, the body which has been fighting over this issue from last 15 years is happy with this decision
Pune: Guardian Minister Girish Bapat has allocated a funds of Rs 100 crore to Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to build a grand memorial in the name of Savitribai Phule who was a visionary reformist at Bhide Wada, where the first school for girls was started by her near Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Temple. The Bhide Wada Smarak Samiti, the body which has been fighting over this issue from last 15 years is happy with this decision.
The Samiti is demanding PMC to complete the land acquisition process as soon as possible and built the grand memorial soon. Sandip Ladkat, Samiti’s convener and former corporator said, “We have also received notice from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Bapat to give some contribution in the work of building the grand memorial. Also, PMC has received orders from the State government to build the memorial giving it the first priority.”
Siddharth Dhende, Deputy Mayor and member of Bhide Wada Smarak Samiti, said, “From last 15 years the corporation is trying to get the ‘wada’ declared as a national monument. It was under the land acquisition process and the high court asked the civic body to rehabilitate the eight shops located in the ‘wada’. There is no update on HC’s decision yet but if the State has given out its decision and if they are serious on it then the grand memorial will be built for sure for which Rs 1 crore has been allocated to PMC.”
