Garage owner flees after selling cars handed over for servicing

Pune: The owner of Star Garage near old Ramwadi octroi post on Ahmednagar Highway has been booked by the Pune police for allegedly selling cars of people who had given them for servicing and then closing down his shop and vanishing.

Based on a complaint from one Pradip Ramrao Jadhav (23), a real estate and travel businessman from Wagholi, the Yerwada police registered an FIR against Gurfan Shaikh, owner of the garage, a native of Hyderabad, who lives in Koregaon Park.

The police said Jadhav’s Swift Dzire car, worth Rs 8 lakh, met with an accident and he gave it for repairs and painting at the garage.

“Shaikh told me the car will be repaired within 20 days. He then sent me photographs of the car saying it was repaired and he will hand it over to me after some minor work after two days. However, when I went to get my car, I found the garage closed. I made several calls, but he is not responding,” Jadhav said in his complaint.

Assistant PI GG More, who is investigating the case, said, “Three more persons have approached us with similar complaints. The accused sold their cars and fled. We have registered a case and search is on.”

Prasadrao Yamarpu of Mangaldas Road, Bund Garden, Asif Shaikh of Yerwada and Yashwant Satpute of Kharadi are the other complainants.
