PUNE: With the combined efforts of city police, Crime Branch Unit I and Unit III, the police arrested two persons of a five-member gang involved in a dacoity case of robbing a courier firm of Rs 31 lakh on August 24.
The arrested accused were identified as Suraj Rathod alias Haalpati(24) from Daman & Diu and Kamlesh Dhodi(26) from Gujarat. The other three absconding accused were identified as Anil Adhav(42), Naresh Gamit (38) and Pappu Yadav.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Pankaj Dahane stated that the complainant Manoj Dendore who works for the courier company was on his way with other persons in a car along with Rs 31 lakh cash when the five accused looted the cash near E-Square on Ganeshkhind Road.
The accused were in a car with a red beacon and had fake pistols. They posed as police officials and then looted the complainant.
A team of Crime Branch Unit I and Unit III started the investigation. Assistant Commissioner of Police Suresh Bhosale said the accused are involved in many such crimes in Gujarat, Karnataka, Delhi, Rajasthan and other states. “We recovered Rs 21 lakh cash and two air guns from the accused,” added Bhosale.
Senior Police Inspector Nitin Bhosale-Patil said policeman Gajan Sonune received information that the accused will be on their way from Daman & Diu and go towards Satara and so a trap was laid and the accused were trapped near Chandni Chowk in Kothrud.
The police suspect that absconding accused Anil Adhav, who hails from Phaltan, planned the dacoity.
