With just one member filing her nomination paper, it is clear that she will be next Standing Committee Chairperson of the PCMC. With this, BJP city unit chief and MLA Laxman Jagtap finally managed to appoint his supporter as the chairperson of the Standing Committee which holds the key to all financial decisions of the civic body.

Pimpri: In a surprising turn of events, keeping aside all names of front-runners for the post of Standing Committee chairman, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday decided to allow Mamata Gaikwad to file the nomination form.

As the BJP has a clear majority in the civic body, now what remains is just the formal announcement. On March 7, Mamata Gaikwad’s name will be declared for the important post. But this decision has triggered a rebellion among the ranks and files of the party. It is being speculated that this decision has disappointed Bhosari MLA Mahesh Landge faction. This decision has also enraged old BJP loyalists.

As a result of this unrest, Mayor Nitin Kalje, who is a staunch supporter of Mahesh Landge, offered his resignation. Corporator Rahul Jadhav along with second time BJP corporator Shital Shinde offered their resignations from the Standing Committee.
Mamata Gaikwad is a wife of former NCP corporator and Jagtap supporter Vinayak Gaikwad who joined BJP before civic polls. With Gaikwad’s selection, Jagtap has once again proved his dominance.

After coming to the power, BJP chose MLA Mahesh Landge’s supporter Nitin Kalje for the post of Mayor, similarly, old BJP loyalist Eknath Pawar was given a chance to be the house leader.
