French financial firm ready to give loan to PMPML

While speaking to media, Rao said, “A delegation from AFD visited the PMC and they have shown interest in giving financial assistance to the civic body to strengthen the public transport system."

PUNE: A French company has shown interest in providing loans to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for improving public transport in the city. A delegation of AFD - Agence Française de Développement - financial firm of France visited the PMC on Thursday. The delegation discussed transport related issue with Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao. AFD is already providing finance to Pune Metro project. 

While speaking to media, Rao said, “A delegation from AFD visited the PMC and they have shown interest in giving financial assistance to the civic body to strengthen the public transport system. They will provide a soft loan on minimum interest rates to the civic body. At present, they have provided loan to Chennai city to improve the public transport system.”

The delegation has suggested the civic body to improve the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd. (PMPML) and increase the length of Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) in the city. 
Rao said, “PMPML needs around 3,000 buses. Right now, we don’t have so many buses. However, we are trying to acquire up to 3,000 buses in two years.”
