Pune: A new paediatric dental care centre has opened at Aundh District Hospital. This new centre will cater to special paediatric patients free of cost with surgeries like cleft lip and cleft palate. The dental centre is at the District Early Intervention Centre (DEIC) for special children.
Speaking to Sakal Times, Dr Yashwant Ujagera, dentist at DEIC and Aundh Hospital, said that the dental chair at DEIC will help many special children.
“We have done a lot of operations so far for cleft palate and cleft lip. Special children, who visit the centre, can now avail this offer. This centre will help patients, who come from distant parts of the district, to avail all sorts of facilities,” said Ujagera.
Speaking to Sakal Times, another doctor at the centre, Dr Hemant Lende, said that children who have cleft palate come very often. “These children are mostly low birth weight babies and have other complications. We monitor and take care of these children so that they gain weight and become fit for primary surgery so that there are less complications while operating on them and more benefits,” said Lende.
Meenakshi Kamble from DEIC said that children who have autism, cerebral palsy, epilepsy and other issues come to the centre. “These children have dental issues as well. With a dedicated centre here now, the children and their parents can come to us for a spectrum of problems, which can be treated under one roof,” she said.
Speaking to Sakal Times, Dr AB Nandapurkar, civil surgeon at Aundh Hospital, said that the centre will cater to special children and their needs. “The children can also undergo treatment for cavities as well as root canal treatment with the specialties at the hospital now. From simple dental checkup to advanced treatments, the children can get these for free,” said Nandapurkar.
