Four-day Mahaparv Chhath Puja begins

PUNE: The four-day ‘Mahaparv Chhath Puja’ celebrations began across the nation on Sunday.

During the celebrations, devotees offer special prayers to the Sun God. The festival is connected with purity and devotion to the Sun God, who is considered as the source of life on Earth and is regarded as the deity who fulfills all our wishes.

Thousands of north Indians living in Pune are expected to participate in the Chhath Puja. Devotees will offer prayers at Karve Nagar, Wagholi, Lohegaon, Kharadi, Sinhagad Road, Ganesh Nagar, Bopkel and Pimpri-Chinchwad.

“We have already started cleaning the ghat at Vadgaon, Sinhagad Road. There are hundreds of devotees that participate in the puja. We have made seating arrangements for devotees and their family members,” said a member of the organisation.

Binod Kumar Ojha, President, Nirbhay Adarsh Manch at Lohegaon, said, “We have been celebrating this festival for the past 10 years. There are hundreds of north Indians living in Lohegaon. Many family members of armed forces also participate. We have started making a pond in the area.”

The organising committee member of Ganesh Nagar Chhath Puja said, “The north Indian group of Ganesh Nagar is organising and managing all the arrangements of Chhath Puja in the area. We are making a temporary pond at the venue. All arrangements are sponsored by the members of the group and devotees. On the day of ‘Parana’, the group will provide hot water with ginger and ginger tea for the devotees.”
