Four aspirants in race for NCP ticket
It is revealed that ex-MLA late Ramesh Wanjale’s daughter Sayali and Sachin Dodke, Datta Dhankwade and Vishal Tambe are the 4 strong aspirants.
Pune: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is working with its full strength to bring back two State Assembly seats - Vadgaonsheri and Khadakwasla - into its fold. As Khadakwasla falls under the Baramati Lok Sabha Constituency, Baramati MP Supriya Sule is personally looking into it.
It is revealed that former MLA late Ramesh Wanjale’s daughter Sayali and corporator Sachin Dodke, Datta Dhankwade and Vishal Tambe are the four strong aspirants who have started their preparations. All four are sitting corporators from the NCP.
NCP City Unit Chief Vandana Chavan told Sakal Times, “We have started our preparation for upcoming Assembly polls.”
Another party official said, “The party needs to unite for joint efforts in Khadakwasla constituency. In this constituency, maximum numbers of corporators are from NCP. As there are too many aspirants, they are working individually. Senior party leaders have also pointed out this issue. At present, NCP corporators have shown poor performance compared to other strongholds such as Hadapsar and Vadgaonsheri.”
During the last Assembly election held in 2014, Dilip Barate lost to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Bhimrao Tapkir by 63,400 votes.
Earlier, Tapkir was elected during a bypoll conducted after the demise of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena MLA Ramesh Wanjale in 2009. In 2014, Tapkir got re-elected. After losing these two elections, NCP seems to be giving special attention to the Khadakwasla constituency.
No wonder, the party’s agitation rally ‘Halla Bol’ was launched in Khadakwasla. Moreover, to address the demands of voters from the constituency, Sule recently demanded extension of Metro Railway route from Swargate to Khadakwasla citing that population has gone up in this area.
During the rally, Dodke showed his strength as thousands of his supporters participated.
According to NCP insiders, Dodke has already made an announcement regarding different developmental works. Dodke recently cleared the path for road widening project, which was stalled due to opposition from National Defence Academy (NDA).
Similarly, Sayali Wanjale is showing keen interest in solving day-to-day issues of locals in Khadakwasla area. Similarly, former city mayor Datta Dhankawade and former standing committee chairman Vishal Tambe are considered to be strong contenders for Khadakwasla assembly segment.
Narhe, Nanded village, Kirkatwadi, Khadakwasla, Shivne village, Uttamnagar, Kopre and Kondhwe Dhavde are parts of the Khadakwasla state constituency. However, after getting elected from Khadakwasla twice, Tapkir is likely to face anti-incumbency factor.
