Pimpri: The foundation for 25 more pillars for metro lines between Pimpri and Dapodi will be laid early this month before the monsoon reaches the city. Interestingly, there are some 200 pillars in this six-kilometre span and the foundation and cement concrete work of 143 pillars has been completed so far, said Mahamatro’s Project Manager Gautam Birhade while addressing a press conference here on Friday.
When asked about the sudden slowdown in the construction of the metro pillars from last one month, Birhade said, “We are focusing on completing the cement concretisation by digging the foundation. If the foundation work has to be completed by June, then the work of the pillars can be carried out during the rain. That is why the work on the construction of the pillars has slowed down,” said Birhade.
He added, “Besides this, 10 spans of viaduct in Kharalwadi were also completed. The work of Sant Tukaramnagar station is also in progress. With this station, 34 foundations will be constructed for the entry and exit of the passengers at Phugewadi and Bopodi, out of which 19 have been completed.”
“Micro piling is being done to support the pavement of the existing bridge at Nashik phata. There will be a total of 238 spots in the area where micro piling work is required. Three to four micro pilings per day are being completed,” he further added.
Birhade said that another machine would be brought there to speed up the work. He said that the Metro has submitted its demand to the Defence department to start work on the metro at Bopodi and Khadki areas. The digging work of foundation of a pillar in Mula river near Harris bridge has also been completed.
