Former Pune RPO appointed ambassador to North Korea

Pune: Former Regional Passport Officer (RPO) of Pune Atul M Gotsurve has been appointed as Indian ambassador to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Monday.

Gotsurve worked as Regional Passport Officer of Pune region from April 2014 to August 2017. In June, 2015 he was conferred the special recognition award for setting high standards in passport delivery to citizens by Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj.

Gotsurve worked as Regional Passport Officer of Pune region from April 2014 to August 2017. In June, 2015 he was conferred the special recognition award for setting high standards in passport delivery to citizens by Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj.

On his appointment as ambassador of Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, he told Sakal Times, “I am feeling honoured to have been appointed by the government for such an important assignment. I will try my best to further strengthen existing bilateral relations between India and Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.”

Earlier, he has worked in the Indian Embassy in Mexico. He was Deputy Chief of Indian Embassy in Cuba. He has also represented India at several international conferences. He has travelled widely across the world in his official capacity and personal capacity and visited 35 countries.

Gotsurve’s Pune connection
† Gotsurver was born in Solapur and completed his Diploma in Civil Engg from Govt Polytechnic, Pune, BE (Civil) from MIT, Pune, ME (Civil- Structural Engineering) from COEP Pune. 
† He has also completed his LLB from Savitribai Phule Pune University. 
† He is a 2004 batch of Indian Foreign Service (IFS). 
† He is currently posted as Director in Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR) New Delhi.
