Foreigner arrested trying to breach airport security
A 42-year-old citizen of Venezuela was arrested on Friday by the Pune city police for allegedly entering the Pune airport, Lohegaon, using forged email boarding pass. He told the security that he wanted to say goodbye to his male friend who was travelling to Delhi.
Pune: A 42-year-old citizen of Venezuela was arrested on Friday by the Pune city police for allegedly entering the Pune airport, Lohegaon, using forged email boarding pass. He told the security that he wanted to say goodbye to his male friend who was travelling to Delhi.
The arrested accused was identified as Miguel Enrique Meneses Becerra, a native of Venezuela, who lives in Magarpatta City, Hadapsar. He works as site reliability engineer with a reputed MNC engaged in oil services and has office in Commerzone, Yerawada.
Based on a complaint from Vaibhav Tulsirqam Poman (38), a security manager with Indigo Airlines, Airport (Vimantal) police have registered an FIR against the accused.
According to the police, the incident took place at 8 pm on Thursday. His friend was going to Delhi and Becerra had come to see him off. “However, he forged his earlier Indigo Airlines boarding pass, which he used to travel from Pune to Hyderabad on August 24. On the forged boarding pass (web check-in) he mentioned Indigo flight from Pune to Mumbai at 5 pm on Thursday but in reality there is no such flight. He used Pune-Hyderabad flight number in the forged boarding pass which he had used to enter the airport and came to the departure hall,” stated Poman in his complaint.
The police said that after his friend go to board the Air India flight to Delhi, Becerra was going out of the airport when he was stopped by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jawans who asked him to bring the (Indigo) airline staff. “When he approached our staff, we checked his boarding pass and learnt that it was forged. Hence, he was handed over to the police,” Poman added.
Senior Police Inspector Dilip Shinde, in-charge of Vimantal police station said, “We arrested the accused for offences under sections 465 (punishment for forgery) and 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Further investigation is going.”
