Pune: Commuters from Kothrud, Warje, Malwadi, Karve Nagar, Dhayari, Sinhagad Road and Mumbai-Pune Highway have heaved a sigh of relief as the traffic congestion on the important junction on Karve Road and in Warje areas has reduced to a large extent because of the Karve Nagar flyover.

Many commuters are happy as the flyover has reduced the traffic congestion on the busy road, which also has many educational institutes nearby.

“After a delay of nearly three years, the Karve Nagar flyover was opened to commuters in June 2017. Before the flyover was opened to the public, the lengthy junction was busy with vehicles going in different directions. Due to this a lot of accidents used to take place, but now it has reduced,” said officials of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).

The flyover is located between Cummins College Junction and Universal Junction on Karve Road towards Warje and two separate four-lane flyovers have been built at the junction connecting the service roads of 5.1m and the central portion with the bus rapid transit system (BRTS) route.

“The flyover has brought us relief from the dangerous traffic congestion that used to occur on the Karve Road Junction. I still remember we used to wait nearly half an hour to reach our destination after Karve Nagar. Now, each and every vehicle takes the concerned lanes toward their destination,” said Mayur Laxman Koli, a daily commuter from SB Road to Sinhagad Road.
