Pune: Fliers and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) guards are always at loggerheads over petty issues at the airport. Most of the passengers are impatient regarding the completion of the security check, while the guards, on the other hand, do not inform passengers about the security checks and rules.

Almost three weeks ago, a passenger had written a complaint to the Director General of CISF, New Delhi, and Airport Authority of India (AAI), where he mentioned that CISF personnel at Pune airport harassed him during the security check. He also mentioned that security officials forced him to delete the picture of the airport terminal building, which is prohibited at Pune airport.

“We received a complaint from a passenger. We are conducting an internal inquiry, the report will be submitted soon,” said a highly placed official of the CISF from New Delhi.
Sources said that the passenger initially started an argument with the security personnel.

“We checked the CCTV footage at the security hold area. We found that the youth, who claimed that he was harassed by the staff, had his arms raised while personal security check only for three seconds, and started arguing with the staff and claimed that he was being harassed him. After that, he started making a video of the area. He was told not to shoot the video and later, he deleted it,” said a highly placed official of CISF, New Delhi.

In another incident, a lady passenger arrived from New Delhi about 10 days ago. She left her belongings near the arrival gate. and a staffer observed the unattended baggage at the arrival area. In the meantime, the lady came back to her baggage and started shouting at the security personnel.

According to eyewitnesses, she used abusive language with the security staff. When a lady inspector arrived, she abused her too.

According to sources, every day, the airport officials, airlines staff and security officials face this kind of situation. Besides this, passengers claim that security personnel are not soft spoken and try to harass them.

Hemendra Singh, Assistant Inspector General, Public Relations Officer, CISF, said, “When we receive any complaints regarding our security personnel from any airport, we conduct an inquiry.

We are conducting special sessions for our staff on how to talk to passengers. Our staff is not arrogant or irresponsible.

Passengers have to cooperate with the security personnel during the security check. The airport security comes under CISF and we are responsible for everything related to
security.”
