Pune: Five burglars, including a minor, were arrested by Chinchwad police on Monday on charges of burglary and vehicle theft. Police have recovered, three autorikshaws, six bikes, six digital cameras, seven watches, seven phones, one laptop and one LED TV, amounting to over Rs 23 lakh, and a gun, along with six live cartridges, from them.
The accused have been identified as Raju Shambhu Devnath (19), a resident of Hadapsar, Mangesh Vijay Chavan (22), a resident of Gokhale Nagar, Mahzar Namdar (30), a resident of Shivajinagar. Police have also arrested one Altaf Pathan, who used to store the stolen booty. The burglars have 21 cases of stealing registered against them.
According to Chinchwad police, they initially nabbed two motorcycle-borne burglars on suspicion while they were patrolling in Chinchwad area. After being spotted by the police, the duo tried to flee, however, they were chased and arrested. During interrogation, the duo revealed the names of their other accomplices, who were later taken into custody.
Police said that the minor accused detained by them was in the possession of country-made gun and cartridges. All accused have been booked under the relevant section of burglary by Chinchwad police.
