Five firefighters hurt in bizarre accident

Pune: Five firefighters and a man was injured after a branch of a tree fell on them while they were responding to tree falling incidents in Koregaon Park on Tuesday evening. As per information shared by the Fire Fighting Department, while one driver of the department is under treatment at an intensive care unit (ICU) of a private hospital, other five are out of danger and were discharged from the hospital after treatment.
 
The Fire Fighting Department has been on its toes from last four days as over 130 incidents of tree falling have been reported in the city. Officials said that winds and sudden heavy rain in different parts of the city have led to such incidents. On Tuesday evening, 40 such incidents were reported in Koregaon Park and Yerwada and officials were working till late at night to clear the roads.

While working in Lane No. 7 of Koregaon Park, firefighters were cutting down a heavy log of wood when one of the branches fell on the firefighters and another man passing by. 

The injured Nitin Kamble, Chagan More, Bhushan Sonawane, Azim Shaikh, Bandu Gogawale were rushed to a nearby private hospital. An official from the Fire Fighting Department said that Nitin was under treatment in the ICU till Wednesday evening and other injured were discharged. Officials said that Nitin was still unconscious till Wednesday evening.

The lifesaver
A firefighter of Pune Fire Department Yogesh Chavan who was on his way to home in Satara saved 19  passengers who were stuck in a State Transport (ST) bus which caught fire. Yogesh Chavan was on his way to Satara when he saw a Pune-Mahabaleshwar State Transport (ST) bus on fire near old Katraj tunnel. He immediately stopped and tried to douse the fire with sand from a nearby area. After he failed to do so, he stopped a car and used the fire extinguisher in 
the car to douse the fire in the bus. The passengers were immediately rescued from the bus.
