Five engineering students arrested for stealing motorcycles worth `21.85 lakh

The accused were arrested  a resident of Lohegaon was stopped while riding a KTM motorcycle on the basis of suspicion.

Pune: Five engineering students of a private college in the city have been arrested for stealing 18 motorcycles worth Rs 21.85 lakh from various locations across the city on Monday.

Those arrested have been identified as Aadesh Shinde (19), a native of Parbhani, Ashish Sardar (20), a native of Bulana, Madhav Singh (19), a native of Begusarai in Bihar, Kiran Khairnar (20), a native of Nashik, and Somnath Patole (23), a native of Apani. All are students of an engineering college and used to steal motorcycles to afford a high-end lifestyle.

The accused were arrested after one Sohail Shaikh (19), a resident of Lohegaon was stopped while riding a KTM motorcycle on the basis of suspicion. He was stopped by a police constable of the Vimantal police station and during questioning, he revealed the names of five students who were involved in stealing bikes across the city.

The accused students made away with four Enfield bullets, four KTMs, three Pulsars, one Karizma, one Unicorn, one Activa, one Jupiter, one Dominor, one R-15 and one CD Deluxe motorcycle from various locations at Vimantal, Alandi, Deccan, Vishrantwadi, Chandan Nagar, Duttwadi, Wanawadi, Vishrambaug, Khadak and Swargate.

A case has been registered against all the five accused under relevant sections of IPC.
