Five bookies arrested for betting on IPL matches

Pune: Five bookies were arrested by the Pune rural police on Wednesday for conducting betting for IPL cricket matches. The police seized 11 cell phones, a laptop, a calculator, a portable TV and a car, totally worth Rs 12,26,160  from the bookies.

The police acted on a tip-off provided to them by an informer. The accused were identified as Naresh Agarwal (47), a resident of Somatane Phata, Naveen Agrawal (41), a resident of Dehu Road, Vikram Jain (39), a resident of Nigdi Gaothan, Nadeem Pathan (28), a resident of Akurdi, Deepak Kruplani (43), a resident of Jadhav Wadi.

The police arrested the bookies from Leela Lodge in Khalapur. The police were informed that the five accused will be travelling in their car to do betting. The police followed them till the hotel and then arrested them from there.

The police also arrested the hotel manager, Ravindra Dongare for facilitating the betting at the hotel.

A case has been registered against the five bookies and the hotel manager under Maharashtra Gambling act.
