Taking immediate steps to save the woman, official Vinayak Mali alerted Awale, who jumped into the canal and saved the woman. The woman after being given first aid, was admitted to a private hospital. Apparently, the fire brigade had recently opened a new office in Janata Vasahat. A resident of Patas village in Daund taluka, Awale is also a good wrestler. He has been working with the Pune Fire Brigade Department for the past six years.
