FIR filed against PMPML staff for leaving bus on road

Pune: The Pune traffic police branch has lodge an FIR against a Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) bus driver, conductor and other responsible officials for not removing a bus at University chowk after its breakdown during peak hour on Friday morning.

Traffic police naik Suhas Tambekar has filed the complaint in this regard with Chatuhshrungi police station. A case has been registered for offences under section 283 (danger or obstruction in public way or line of navigation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 122 (leaving vehicle in dangerous condition), 190(2) (using vehicle in unsafe condition) and other offences under the Motor Vehicle Act.

According to the FIR, the bus (MH 14CW1940) was stranded at the bus stop near University Chowk from 9 am on Thursday till 11 am on Friday. The bus had developed snags and the driver, conductor and other officials responsible had not removed the bus, thus causing inconvenience to the commuters. “We had informed PMPML control room several times but the bus was not removed,” said a police officer from Chatuhshrungi police station.

Subhash Gaikwad, Public Relation Officer of PMPML, said, “The bus (R-58) belongs to a private contractor Mahalaxmi Automotive Pvt Ltd. Due to the wiring problem, the bus broke down and stopped at the University chowk. On the next day (Friday), when the driver went to tow the bus, the police have already filed a complaint. As per the rule, we have given intimation to the contractor to pick up the bus when they receive the call of breakdown.”
