This is the second such meet after the recent one for the same purpose in Delhi. The meet was held at Yashada in Baner and was followed by a press meet.

Speaking at the conference, Singh said the commission has received a memorandum from Maharashtra State and the discussion on the same will be held in September. He said it was not appropriate to discuss the details of the memorandum submitted by the Maharashtra State. “As Pune has lot of intellectuals we thought we should have opinions of economic experts.

The experts submitted their opinion on urbanization and Smart Cities which we will consider. The experts also highlighted that there is inequality at state level in Mahrashtra and other states which should also be a point of consideration,” added Singh.

The State government has decided to demand Rs 50,000 crore as financial aid over five years from the Centre for the development of Mumbai by giving special status and Rs 25,000 crore each for the Vidarbha and Marathwada statutory boards. Singh said the state has asked for the grants and the decision on same will be taken in September, when the commission will meet with the state officials.

Speaking on urbanisation, Singh said experts have pointed out that urbanisation will continue to grow but there is need to focus on agriculture sector.
