Film by FTII alumnus wins award in Georgia

Pune: ‘Ekaant’, a film by Sarthak Bhasin, an alumnus of FTII, has won the ‘Best Short Fiction Award’ at Tbilisi International Student Film Festival in Georgia. The festival was held from May 30 to June 3.

Sarthak Bhasin, a 2011 batch ‘Direction’ student directed the course end diploma film which has been shot by Pretheepan Selvarathnam, edited by Sumit Kumar with sound by Arun Kumar R.

“Sarthak’s academic achievements as a student of Post Graduate Diploma in Direction and Screenwriting has been something to write home about. On FTII scholarship, he studied for a semester at the prestigious Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU, Prague) in the Czech Republic in 2015. Considering his enviable track record, the honours at Tbilisi is, in a sense, not surprising,” said Bhupendra Kainthola, Director, FTII.

Sarthak was awarded ‘Best Final Year Film Direction Student of FTII’ at the 13th Pune International Film Festival (PIFF-2015) and won the ‘FTII Academic Toppers Scholarship’ in the Year 2015 and 2011 at FTII, Pune.

He also bagged ‘KA Abbas Memorial First Year Meritorious Student Scholarship’ in the Year 2010 at FTII.

Set in an unspecified time and space, the protagonist of ‘Ekaant’ seems to be the only living person in a completely devastated city. He goes about, struggling his way, negotiating the tough settings and trying to survive. When on one fine day, out of nowhere, he happens to meet another person. Except that this person looks exactly like him.
