The government had announced that Rs 10,000 will be disbursed to farmers to purchase seeds and pesticides as the sowing season has already started, considering that it may take time for the high power committee to prepare a list of beneficiaries liable for the complete ‘on condition’ loan waiver.

Pune: The Steering Committee of farmers consisting of leaders like MP Raju Shetti and Shetkari Sanghatana leader Raghunathdada Patil has opposed the conditions laid down by the State government for the immediate help of Rs 10,000 to farmers.

The government had announced that Rs 10,000 will be disbursed to farmers to purchase seeds and pesticides as the sowing season has already started, considering that it may take time for the high power committee to prepare a list of beneficiaries liable for the complete ‘on condition’ loan waiver.

Despite Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ assurance in Pune that self certification by farmers seeking Rs 10,000 will be considered enough, Dr Ajit Navale, General Secretary of the Maharashtra Rajya Kisan Sabha and Co-ordinator of the Steering Committee, said that they do not approve of the conditions laid down for farmers qualifying for the Rs 10,000 grant.

Navale opposed the condition that the elected members of Zilla Parishad, Panchayat Sangh, Co-operative Milk Societies and sugar factories will not be considered for this disbursal. Navale said that a person’s ability to get elected does not mean that he or she is financially capable. Navale added that the State government had announced a fair representation of farmers’ leaders on the committee to finalise the criteria for a complete loan waiver.
