Pune: A trap laid by the Swargate police to nab a ‘fake conductor’ was successful when the accused, Sunil Vishnu Jadhav (26), was nabbed at Swargate Bus Depot in the wee hours of Monday.

The accused had stolen bus tickets and was giving the same to passengers heading to Solapur. After two incidents were reported by passengers of being cheated by the fake conductor, Senior Police Inspector Fauk Kazi of Swargate police asked his team to be alert. Police Sub Inspector S Waghmare of Swargate police said that Sunil had come to Swargate Bus Depot at around 4 am and was about to sell tickets to Solapur-bound passengers when he was nabbed by the Swargate police.

“During interrogation, we found that the accused was recruited as a conductor in 2013. Following several allegations, he was removed from the service. He had stolen some tickets and was utilising the same to make some money,” added Waghmare.

Police said that Sunil has confessed to two similar crimes at Swargate Bus Depot in June. The accused is currently in police custody till July 6.

Waghmare is investigating the case and said that the accused hails from Pandharpur and stays with his parents and three siblings. Police said that the accused, even after being suspended from the service, would use bus facilities free of cost to travel between Pune and Solapur.
