Expo of wari and palkhi procession held

Pune: ‘Indrayani to Chandrabhaga’, an exhibition of the photographic journey of the Wari and Palkhi procession to Pandharpur, was inaugurated by ABIL Corporation’s Managing Director Swapnali Kadam at Balgandharva Kaladalan on Monday. Sakal editor Malhar Arankalle was also present on the occasion.

The photographs displayed at the exhibition are the entries to a photography competition organised by Sakal Social Foundation in collaboration with Bharati Vidyapeeth School of Photography and Cinematography. Around 100 participants have submitted around 1095 photographs, all of which have been displayed at the exhibition. The photographers have captured everything about the Wari, the people, children, beautiful landscapes and the crowds in the Palkhi procession at Alandi, Dive Ghat, Pune city, and so on.

The participants submitted their entries for the competition online, and there were no entry fees. Omkar Damle won the first place, while Atharva Sarnot and Darshan Doshi won the second and third places respectively. Omkar Damle, who won the first prize at the competition, shot the prize winning photograph in Pune itself.

“Photography has been my hobby for a very long time. I am presently pursuing diploma in Animation/VFX at Frame Box Animation and Visual Effects, Ghole Road, and we learnt the basics of photography here. This is my second year  of shooting Wari in Pune, and I really loved clicking those pictures. I will be photographing Wari next year as well,” Omkar said.
