Pune: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted thunderstorms accompanied by lightning at isolated places over Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada till September 12, followed by heavy rains in Konkan and Goa on September 13.
Since Friday evening, many regions of the State have experienced thunderstorms followed by rainfall. The IMD noted that this may continue till September 13. According to data furnished by IMD, till Sunday evening, central India
received 188.2 centimetres rainfall as reported by 347 stations. The normal is 287.6 centimetres.
According to IMD, Pune received 586.6 millimetres rainfall from June 1 till date against the normal rainfall of 459.8 millimeters.
The IMD on Sunday also noted that the southwest monsoon has been vigorous over south interior Karnataka and active over Assam and Meghalaya, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim and east Madhya Pradesh. However, it has been subdued over Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Telangana.
For the entire country, IMD forecast that rains are expected at most places over northeast India and at many places over peninsular India. Rain at a few places is also likely over east and adjoining central India. However there is a significant decrease in rainfall activity predicted over the plains of northwest India in the next few days.
