Excise Dept issues 170 one-day bar permits for New Year Eve

Pune: The State Excise Department issued over 170 one-day bar permits in the city till Friday.

Phulpagar said that as the online system was not working they had to switch to the manual mode of allotting the one-day permit to these establishments. This year the department has given over 1 lakh liquor drinking permits for one day on December 31.

Similarly, to keep a check on adulterated liquor, the Excise Department along with city police have
formed seven vigilance squads to keep an eye on the flow of adulterated liquor.

"As New Year celebrations are approaching, there is high demand for liquor and so there are chances of adulterated liquor coming in the market," added Phulpagar.

He said large consignments of alcohol come from Goa, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Daman and so the vigilance squads have been formed. He appealed to people to contact the Excise Department if they found illegal sale of alcohol at any place in the city.

The Excise Department has also shared a WhatsApp number for people to lodge their complaints or give a tip-off about the illegal sale of liquor. "We have conducted 351 raids in last four days and lodged five cases of illegal liquor sale," added Superintendent of State Excise Department Mohan Varde.
