Job, debit cards of suspected operatives of ABT found

Pune: The State Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Thursday informed the court that they have found evidence proving that the arrested five Bangladeshi nationals had provided logistics support to members of the terrorist organisation Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), which is known to be ‘front organisation’ of the Al-Qaeda terrorist group, during their stay in Pune.  The court extended the police custody of the arrested accused persons till April 5.

ACP Sunil Darekar, who produced them before the court, submitted, “We have recovered job and debit cards in the name of Sopan Biswas and Tushar Biswas, suspected operatives of the ABT. Also, a diary has been found in which records of money given to the ABT operatives are mentioned.”

Defence lawyers Tosif Shaikh, Kainat Shaikh and Swapnil Girme argued that ATS has no jurisdiction to investigate this case and it should be transferred to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

The arrested persons were identified as Mohammed Habibur Rehma Habib alias Raj Jesub Mandal (31), Mohammed Ripen Haussain alias Rubel (25) and Hannan Anwar Hussain Khan alias Hannan Baburli Gazi (25), Mohammad Aahat Ali and Mohammad Hassan Ali.

The arrests were made following a tip-off from West Bengal that illegal Bangladeshis working in Pune and Mumbai have been providing support to terrorists from Bangladesh. Accordingly, the arrests were made and it was found they obtained Aadhaar, PAN and voter identity cards here. Most of them worked as
labourers at construction
