Ensure safety for all your students, UGC tells SPPU

PUNE: In the wake of few incident reported about violence against Kashmiri students at some states including Maharashtra, Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has issued a safety notice to all affiliated colleges directing them to ensure safety and protection of all students on campus.

The notification has come following the advisory issued by University Grants Commission (UGC) for all higher education institutes. ‘In the context of reports being received through various media regarding the safety of students from Kashmir studying in various higher educational institutions, all Universities and colleges affiliated to them are advised to ensure the safety and protection of the students on the campus’ read the UGC circular. 

It also mentioned “‘They may keep a watch on the situation and seek support of law and order machinery in case of any untoward incident. Keeping in view the position stated above, you are requested to look into the matter personally for the safety of students and maintaining peace and harmony in the universitv/colleges.”’

Accordingly, SPPU on March 1 wrote to all heads of the departments (HODs) as well as principals of the affiliated colleges, to take steps in this regard. 

Officials said that in Pune, there has been no attack on any Kashmiri student. Earlier, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs had also issued an advisory to all the states in this regard.
