Engg courses on new technology need restructuring: Lt Gen Saini

PUNE: Southern Army Commander Lt Gen SK Saini, on Sunday, said that there is a need to restructure engineering courses on emerging technologies, which are on the horizon, like artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, etc. 

He was speaking during the silver jubilee celebrations of the Army Institute of Technology (AIT), Pune, which is exclusively for the children of Army personnel.

Charting a roadmap for the future of the institute, Lt Gen Saini, who is also the patron-in-chief of the college, said, “The institute now needs to take the next step forward and should be recognised as a pioneer in technology and holistic education. The institute needs to adapt to new changes and be open to restructuring courses to provide the best possible education to students in today’s dynamic and ever-changing landscape of technology.”

Brig Abhay Bhat, Director, AIT, said, “There is a need to upgrade to a globally recognised institute. We will be also starting various PG courses in future.”

The Chief of Army Staff trophy for COAS All Round Student Rolling Trophy and GOC-in-C Southern Command rolling trophy for best girl student in academics was presented by the Chief Guest to Tutu Kumari and Swagatika Sahu respectively.

Like every year, AIT honoured leading industry professionals for their contribution to the society. MS Unnikrishnan, MD and CEO of Thermax Group of Industries, was felicitated with the Life Time achievement award while B Satheesh Chandrasekhar, Co-founder of Ideavate Solutions, Indore, and an alumnus of 1999 batch of AIT, was awarded the ‘successful entrepreneur award’ during the function. 

Former directors, principals and joint directors were also felicitated for their contribution to the success of AIT. Senior military officers, industry partners of AIT, alumni, famous academic personalities, staff and students of AIT were part of the celebration.
