Residents claimed that helpline numbers were not reachable

PUNE: Due to the continuous heavy rains, several areas in the city encountered power cuts for more than five hours while some areas faced voltage fluctuations throughout the day. The residents claimed that officials and helpline numbers were not reachable.

Mohammadwadi, Bibwewadi, Dattawadi, Navi Peth, Sadashiv Peth, Rasta Peth, Mundhwa, Keshav Nagar, Sangvi and other areas suffered due to power cuts for more than 5 to 10 hours on Sunday and Monday.

“We suffered due to power cut for nearly seven hours on Monday morning. Being the first working day of the week, it was a hard time for the working population as well as school going children. MSEDCL needs to sort out this issue once and for all,” said Minal Kulkarni, a resident of Sadashiv Peth.

Rohini Kulkarni, residing in Sangvi-Pimple Gurav area, said that she was totally upset as the power cut spoiled her Sunday morning plans. “Being a working woman, my entire family looks forward to spending quality time with each other on Sunday morning. We plan a special delicacy for morning breakfast and lunch.

But because of the power cut, we couldn’t do anything. Similarly, the laundry too got delayed, spoiling the first day of the week. Although the electricity was restored, there was no stable voltage and power supply fluctuated,” she said.

The MSEDCL consumers also used social media to convey their message since the phone numbers of divisional offices in the city were not reachable.

The officials said that due to continuous rain in the city, some areas suffered major electricity cuts as the transformers stopped functioning.

“We have received several complaints from different parts of the city regarding power cuts. The Sadashiv Peth area suffered due to non-functioning of transformers.

The areas suffer power cut from morning 4 am. We fixed the problem after 11 am. In Sangvi area, the power fluctuation was again due to a technical snag, which led to a fluctuation in this area. Our engineers are continuously working to resolve the problems. However, due to heavy rain, it is taking time,” said an executive engineer of MSEDCL. The officer also appealed to consumers to cooperate.
