PUNE: Officials of the election department have decided to highlight the names of people with special needs on the electoral chart to serve them in a better manner. The Deputy Election Officer (DEO), Monika Singh, said that there are around 2 lakh people with special needs registered in Pune of which we have listed of 8,500 such persons who are eligible for voting.

“We are collecting data of such persons from the disability commissioner department and local corporation bodies. However, I feel the data of such persons should reach about 40,000. Also, I have asked all my block level officers to look for all such persons who are eligible for voting but are not registered in the voters’ list. We have about 7,000 block level officers in the district,” she added.

Speaking about accessible elections, the DEO said that based on the special needs of such person planning will be done in advance so that block level officers are able to provide necessary help to such persons at the time of voting.
