Elderly couple rescued in city

Fire Officer Rishikant Chipade said Ram Sharman (75) and Malan Sharman(70) were in the crematorium with their four dogs and were stuck due to sudden rise in water level in Indrayani river.

PUNE: Officials of the Pimpri Chinchwad Fire Fighting Department on Monday rescued an elderly couple and four dogs from a crematorium in Moi area which was flooded on Monday following the swelling of Indrayani river. 

Fire Officer Rishikant Chipade said Ram Sharman (75) and Malan Sharman(70) were in the crematorium with their four dogs and were stuck due to sudden rise in water level in Indrayani river. A team of fire fighting officials were called along with a boat to rescue the couple and the dogs.

“Earlier, we thought of rescuing the dogs first but they were reluctant to leave the couple. So we had to rescue the couple first. Following which in the next attempt, the dogs were eager to come with us making the rescue successful,” added Chipade. The couple stays near crematorium and fish in Indrayani river for their living.
