Ekbote remanded in judicial custody

Pune: A Special District Court on Wednesday remanded Milind Ekbote, president of Samast Hindu Aghadi and main accused in the Koregaon-Bhima violence case of January 1, in magisterial custody for 14 days.  

After expiry of his police custody, the police produced him before the court and sought seven days custody.

After expiry of his police custody, the police produced him before the court and sought seven days custody. 

Special Judge Pralhad Bhagure observed, “There is no satisfactory progress in investigation. Sufficient opportunity has been availed by the investigating officer to conduct custodial interrogation. (There is) no ground to extend the police custody. Hence, accused taken in judicial custody till April 4. It appears from the record there was ink assault happened on the accused on March 19. Considering the allegations against the accused, the jail authority should take a proper precaution while giving security to accused.”

Ekbote has been lodged in Yerwada Central Jail now. His lawyers have filed a bail application which is expected to come up for hearing on Thursday.
