Pune: Private schools of the city always take parents for a ride leaving them in a lurch. Ecole Heritage School, Baner on Saturday suddenly informed the parents that the school will be shut for next academic year owing to extension and construction of a new building in the school premises.

The move has come when admissions to a majority of the schools in the city are over. The school has suggested to the parents to admit their ward(s) to Dr Kalmadi Shamrao High School (KHS) in Aundh.

In an email communication, school Principal Neena Rai said, “In the meeting, it was informed to all parents that the school will have to be shut down for the construction work for the expansion of the new building which will be taken over by Kannada Sangha.”

A parent, on condition of anonymity, said, “Why would a school, in April, suddenly say that the building has to be reconstructed and the school will be shut for a year. Where should we go to find a new school for admissions now? The school has given us an option, but what if we don’t want to admit our wards there?”

The parents are also saying they admitted their children here because the school was unconventional. “We wanted our kids to learn in a different, better way, so we took admission at Ecole Heritage School. Now the transition to a regular school might be difficult for our children,” a parent added.

The parents are now worried that if they don’t opt for KHS, they won’t get admissions elsewhere as the admissions at almost all CBSE schools are full.

The official email by the school also states that the transportation system for the students will remain the same even after the students are sent to KHS, Aundh.

However, Shivaji Daundkar, Education Officer, PMC said, “Usually, before taking any such decision, the schools need to acquire official permission from us, which through me, goes further to other officials. However, I haven’t yet received any such request from the said school.”
