The election programme, as per the ECI, will start with a pre-revision programme for drafting electoral rolls and arrangement of polling booths.

PUNE: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has released a detailed programme regarding the preparation of voters’ list and mandated issuing the final electoral list on January 4, 2019, in the wake of the upcoming State Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.

Accordingly, the state election body will start its work related to the election and pre-election activities. The election programme, as per the ECI, will start with a pre-revision programme for drafting electoral rolls and arrangement of polling booths. The state commission has been asked to conduct house-to-house surveys between May 15 and June 20 to draft an electoral list with the insertion of eligible voters and deletion of shifted and deceased voters. The survey will be followed by a physical verification and rationalisation activities of polling booths, which will last for over a month between June 21 and July 31.

In August, ECI employees and officers will have to prepare supplements and integrate draft rolls, following which the draft electoral list will be shared. If anyone has claims or objections against the draft roll, they could get it corrected from September 1 to October 30.

The election body must dispose of claims or objections by November 30 and display the changes on its official website. Before finalising the electoral rolls the CEO of the state will seek a clearance from the ECI.
