Dy SP, 5 others caught taking bribe of Rs 25K

Sleuths from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday caught six Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) personnel including a Deputy Superintendent (Dy SP) rank officer in Kolhapur. They had accepted a bribe of Rs 25,000.

Pune: ​Sleuths from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday caught six Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) personnel including a Deputy Superintendent (Dy SP) rank officer in Kolhapur. They had accepted a bribe of Rs 25,000.

According to ACB, the accused allegedly demanded Rs 5,000 each from 21 sportspersons to relieve them from the bandobast duty and allow them to play sports.  

SP (ACB- Pune range) Sandeep Diwan said, “The eight of 21 sportspersons agreed to pay the bribe and deposited Rs 25,000 out of Rs 40,000 in the account of Dy SP’s accomplice.”

The accused persons have been identified as Dy SP Gawai, Inspector Sakat, a head clerk and three IRB staffers. They have been charged for offences under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
