Pune: It’s almost two weeks since the mother of eight-year-old Rudra Chavanjh, who died after falling into a tank filled with water at an under-construction site of a Matoshree school in Yerawada, is running from pillar post in order to get justice for her son. Although the police have booked a security guard and the contractor, Riya Chavan, mother of Rudra wants the police to take action against PMC officials and Sanjay Bhosale, the corporator of Yerawada.
The fateful incident occurred on April 29. The two boys, Rudra Chavan (8) and Rudra Bhujbal (6) died after falling into a tank while extracting their cricket ball from it. Both boys were playing on the premises of Matoshree School where some construction work was in progress. The police booked the contractor Dasarath Mane and security employee Dhanraj Lavate of the school for neglecting their duties which led to the death of the two boys.
However, Riya Chavan wants appropriate action against PMC officials as the work was going under their supervision and she also held local corporator Bhosale responsible for it. She said, “I don’t know why the police are not taking any action against PMC officials associated with the under-construction work and Corporator Sanjay Bhosale as they are equally responsible for the negligence which led to the death of two minor boys including my son.”
“The pit was filled with dirty water and it was in that condition for last three months. The contract was given to the contractor on the recommendation of Bhosale. He used to park all his vehicles in the school and was aware of the condition of the pit but didn’t initiate any action,” added Chavan. Chavan said she has approached the police as well as Mayor Mukta Tilak but nobody has taken any action in this regard. “My only question to politicians and PMC authorities is that whom should I hold responsible for the death of my son if not them. He was my only son and because of their irresponsible behaviour, he died.”
Mukund Mahajan, Police Inspector, Yerwada police station, said, “We have not booked the corporator and the PMC officials as the contract was not in their names. We have arrested the contractor and the security guard for negligence. I have never heard ever in my life that a Corporator got booked for the irresponsible behaviour of the contractor.”
