Dr Ambedkar’s 127th birth anniv celebrated with fervour

Pimpri: The 127th birth anniversary of the Architect of the Constitution and freedom fighter Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar was celebrated with fervour on Saturday in various parts of Pimpri-Chinchwad. 

The celebrations saw a political flavour since Parliamentary and Assembly elections are scheduled for next year and aspiring candidates and their supporters thronged to pay tributes to the popular leader.

Pimpri: The 127th birth anniversary of the Architect of the Constitution and freedom fighter Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar was celebrated with fervour on Saturday in various parts of Pimpri-Chinchwad. 

The celebrations saw a political flavour since Parliamentary and Assembly elections are scheduled for next year and aspiring candidates and their supporters thronged to pay tributes to the popular leader.

There was rush of people throughout the day near the Ambedkar statue in Pimpri. Leaders from various political parties and party workers participated in various programmes in large numbers.

MLAs Laxman Jagtap and Mahesh Landge, Mayor Nitin Kalaje, Deputy Mayor Shailaja More, Municipal Commissioner Shravan Hardikar and Standing Committee Chairperson Mamata Gaikwad paid tributes to Dr Ambedkar at his statue in Pimpri. Kalje and Leader of House in Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Eknath Pawar flew in a helicopter to shower flowers on Ambedkar’s statues in Dapodi, Pradhikaran and Pimpri.

NCP city unit chief Sanjog Waghere paid tributes at the NCP office in Kharalwadi. A large number of stalls selling books on the life and philosophies of Dr Ambedkar, Mahatma Phule and other progressive leaders were open in Pimpri.
