Doc’s assault: accused in police custody

Pune: The police have arrested a youth and nabbed two juveniles for attacking a gynaecologist in Pimple Gurav after he refused to perform an abortion on a 20 weeks pregnant woman. The accused was identified as Siddharth Sajan Suryavanshi (21), a resident of Mahadev Ali, Khadki Bazar.

Assistant Police Inspector B Nanaware, who is investigating the case, said the accused was produced in court and was sent to one-day’s police custody. The accused was charged under section 324 (Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of the Indian Penal Code. The doctors’ association expressed disappointment and said the police should have booked the accused for attempted murder under section 307.
