District admin begins election preparation

PUNE: Officials of the District Administration department have started communicating with 40 government departments as over 54,000 people will be required to manage the forthcoming election. Over 10 per cent of the force will be kept reserved. Officials have asked each department to fill up the details of their representatives in a software.

“We have written to 40 departments including Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad municipal corporations. The departments are supposed to respond in two days and if they fail to do so, we can take action against the departments,” added an official from the District Administration Department.

Officials have also started regular meeting with all stakeholders. To maintain law and order at the polling stations, the divisional commissioner has asked police officials to declare sensitive polling stations as critical.

A total of 73,69,141 voters in the district are part of the list, 10,20,437 more than the 63,48,704 who were on the list during the 2014 Lok Sabha election. In the 2014 Lok Sabha election, there were a total of 7,117 polling booths and this year, there will be 7,666 polling booths.

To provide help to people with special needs, the names of such persons will be flagged so that the administration can provide necessary help to such people.
